Here is a good book
I’ve read on Back care
written by a person who is
a medical doctor and
a Yoga teacher.
It’s always nice to see modern science confirmations of Yoga benefits. It’s not necessary and some of the Yoga benefits are probably not really “measurable”… but still, I personally find it great that modern medicine, modern science is studying effects of Yoga, finds it beneficial and often superior. It’s also another great way to promote Yoga, help people to chose it as their practice.
So, here is the article I found: “Comparing Yoga, Exercise, and a Self-Care Book for Chronic Low Back Pain. A Randomized, Controlled Trial” by Karen J. Sherman, PhD, MPH; Daniel C. Cherkin, PhD; Janet Erro, RN, MN, PNP; Diana L. Miglioretti, PhD; and Richard A. Deyo, MD, MPH) – link to the full text (click for details).
The article conclusion reads: “Yoga was more effective than a self-care book for improving function and reducing chronic low back pain, and the benefits persisted for at least several months.” And they say they observed similar significantly different results between people who practiced Yoga and conventional therapeutic exercise classes… And significant difference was observed already after 12 to 26 weeks!
Great to know.
