“Relaxation of Effort” is considered to be the key in order to be able to achieve Asana Jay. Relaxation of effort will help a Yogi to reach a steady and comfortable posture.
Each asana requires a series of slow and controlled movements that lead to a predetermined physical posture. With practice the Yogi will be able to reach the posture with ease and little effort will be required to maintain stability. A Yogi’s aim should be to perfect a posture to such a degree that he is able to execute it gracefully and effortlessly as if performing a dance. A yogi can achieve this stage only when he is able to have exquisite control over his body.
The asanas are tough to master. This is why it has been said that “One who conquers asana will find victory in three worlds”.* Practicing these asanas helps one develop balance, strength, awareness and inner peace. The easy and flowing movements of asanas helps a person to become aware of unrealized inner resources.
Progressing along the path of outer discipline, the mind and body find harmony with one another. Slowly, one begins to develop a sense of unity with the being along with an increased awareness of the inner spirit.
*According to Hindu scriptures , the three worlds are – Heaven, Hell and Earth. Excerpt from Shandilya Upanishad.
