Path to becoming a Yogi

The most important thing to remember while doing yogasana is to start doing them with a very positive frame of mind. For those of you who are new to yogasana, you must start by selecting a group of 20 simple asanas for a daily practice session. Select a different variety of postures that will exercise all your body parts. Over a period of time you will master all these postures and once you are confident about them and you realize that they do not exercise the body too much, you must move on to more complex postures.

While doing any of these postures, it doesn’t matter if the beginner is unable to execute some of the postures as perfectly as they are performed in the pictures. Even if one is not able to manage a perfect posture, you will still be benefited by attempting the same. A certain amount of exertion while doing the asanas is expected, but one should just not overdo the asanas. If you feel uncomfortable at any point of time while doing the asanas you should discontinue them.

It takes time for the body to be able to adjust to the demands being placed on it. Those who are not used to regular physical exertion will feel a some pain after performing the asanas initially, but over a period of time, it will subside and you will be able to enjoy your yogasana sessions.

Finally, it is most important to remember that Yogasanas are to be performed with a feeling of Ahimsa or non violence and hence they should be worked on smoothly and carefully.
