Mantra

According to Wikipedia

mantra is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that are considered capable of “creating transformation”.

The word mantra is formed by using two words. The first one is “man” or “manas” which means “the mind” and the second one is “trai” which means “to free from”. The word mantra literally means “to free from the mind”.  Mantra thus is the tool which helps free the mind of all its thoughts.

There is a saying in the Vedas that “Speech is the essence of humanity”.  The New Testament, Gospel of John also starts with “In the beginning was The Word. And the Word was with God and the Word was God…” All religions believe in the power of words and hence Mantras have great importance for anyone seeking spiritual advancement.

There is  a rational explanation to the importance of Mantras. Every spoken word is propagated due to vibration in the elements of air. It is proven that every vibration thus produced will decrease its amplitude, but will never die down. Any word thus spoken can never be obliterated. A small amount of energy will always be associated with any spoken word. Hence, we can say that there is one layer of energy that will always be associated with word.

On this one level of energy, one adds the second level of intent. This happens when every spoken word is accompanied with intent. This intent adds another layer to the one of energy.

It is believed that all the organs of our body have specific consciousness of their own which is over ridden by the though consciousness of ourself. This creates subtle vibrations or consciousness that every organism generates. Also, one can relate to the vibrations from another body too. This means that there are many different consciousness and vibrations present in the atmosphere at any point of time.

Mantras create powerful vibrations which create a spiritual energy frequency and a basic state of consciousness. The mantra helps still other vibrations and it creates in the conscious of an individual, a state of where the individual vibrates in tune with the thought and intent created by the mantra.
