I think this will be a long series of regular posts, therefore this one is “number one”. – Some will be simply re-posted from other forums. discussion groups, etc. in which I participate. – So, that information is in one place.
I was answering the following: “i started [...] yoga few months back.. i am doing a lot of reading and downloading movies cuz i don’t have a near by gym that offers such services .. i was wondering if anyone can tell me how can i know that i am doing the right work outs … and the breathing thing i don’t think i really know how i am supposed to do it…”
My answer was:
”
most important rule: self-pacing – if you hurting yourself – you are doing it wrong. If you loose your breath all the time – you pushing over the limits – slow down. These are very important and basic checks.
Breathing – you are only starting – so, please don’t try pranayamas just yet. Even better – learn them under a teacher guidance – no need to rush. Simple rule for basic breath: exhale when you close/fold/twist and inhale when you open.
Take it slowly – start with standing/sitting asanas, no inverted poses, no fancy twists and extreme stretches.
