There is not much use to talk about meditation, Raja Yoga, and other “high matters” if we are ill. I wish you not to get sick and if you do – to get well fast.
There are thousands of pages in the Internet about preventive measures and cures from common cold. The following is just a short summary. Here is the link for quite educative well referenced reading (please consider references therein as well): link. Summary:
- Common cold is something most of the people catch a few times per year on average.
- It happens mostly due to contact with a sick person (in closed spaces in particular) or contact with contaminated surfaces. After you got infected it takes 2-3 days on average for decease to spread and really affect you (sometimes as fast as in 10h). If person is of average health it takes about 1 week for the body to take care of the decease and as it was said earlier (see linked materials for details) there is no really a cure – except comforting a sick person, drinking lots of liquids and maybe easing somewhat conditions with tisanes and stuff.
- Prevention is in reduction of such contacts and washing hands (and not touching the face if you suspect your hands may be with infection before you wash them). Washing hands – helps mechanically remove contamination, no need in special soaps.
- No treatment is found/proven so far by medical officials/experiments. Different drugs only help to somewhat ease symptoms and don’t really cure anything, many of them actually have negative side-effects (read about Zinc and anemia for example). Positive effects against common cold of vitamin C, Zinc, tisanes, steam inhalation, garlic, Echinacea, antibiotics, etc. – are not proven and may have negative effects on health themselves.
- Common cold could also have complications (or symptoms of something more serious mistaken as symptoms of Common Cold), so, please take care of yourself and consult your doctor if in doubt.
- If you got sick – please help others and get well before you come again for a Yoga class, to your office, school, etc.
I sincerely wish you stay healthy and smiley and help one another.
Getting ill may also help us to better understand sufferings of others. It may help us to develop more kindness, understanding and compassion. - We could think about the time we have to spend at home if we are ill as an opportunity to get a lesson of compassion and mindfulness.
Have a nice day! Have a healthy Happy New Year!
